Ingredients

  • 500g Plain Flour
  • 2 tsp Bicarb Soda
  • 1 tsp fine sea salt
  • 400ml Buttermilk

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 200 degrees
  2. Sift the flour and bicarb soda into a large mixing bowl
  3. Make a well in the centre and add the Buttermilk slowly, stirring as you go
  4. Once a soft dough is formed turn out onto a lightly floured surface. Dough should be soft and just off sticky
  5. Lightly kneed dough into a rough ball
  6. Transfer onto a floured baking tray
  7. Using a large knife, cut 2 cross sections 2/3 through the dough to form a cross
  8. Put into oven and bake for 40-45mins. Bread is ready if it sounds hollow when tapped from underneath.
